**Stop Benchmarking 'Hello World'**

Here is how Bun actually performs in production.

## The Hype Train

- **The Claim** — Bun is 4x faster than Node.js! Drop-in replacement! Instant startup!
- **The Reality** — Synthetic benchmarks are deceptive. A `console.log` loop isn't a production app.
- **The Question** — How does it handle database drivers, memory leaks, and long-running processes?

## Benchmark 1: Database I/O

- **Scenario** — Querying Postgres (10k selects). Node (pg) vs Bun (bun:sqlite/drivers).
- **Result** — Bun is faster, but not 4x. The network latency is the equalizer.
- **Stability** — Bun's native drivers are fast, but Node's ecosystem is battle-hardened.

## Benchmark 2: Websockets

Where Bun truly shines.

- **Throughput** — Bun handles significantly more concurrent connections per GB of RAM.
- **Simplicity** — `Bun.serve` requires zero dependencies. Node needs `ws` or `socket.io`.
- **Verdict** — For real-time chat/gaming servers, Bun is the clear winner.

## The Hidden Cost: Compatibility

- **The 'Polyfill' Gap** — Not all Node APIs are 100% implemented. Obscure npm packages will break.
- **Edge Cases** — Streams and file encoding can behave slightly differently in edge cases.

## Memory Usage Over Time

- **Node.js** — V8 engine is memory hungry but predictable.
- **Bun (JSC)** — Uses JavaScriptCore (like Safari). Starts tiny, but garbage collection is different.
- **Risk** — Watch for memory spikes in long-running container tasks.

## Summary: Is it ready?

Speed is great, stability is better.

> Use Bun for tooling and greenfield APIs. Keep Node for legacy monoliths.
