About

What this blog covers and who writes it.

Hi, I'm Stalin Pereira.

This blog is where I write about the parts of software engineering I spend my time on: how systems are built, how they fail, and how to make them easier to run.

What you'll find here

  • Backend and distributed systems — API design, gRPC vs REST, event-driven architecture, idempotency, retries and circuit breakers.
  • Databases — ID strategies, connection pooling, query performance, and knowing when Postgres is enough.
  • AI engineering — running LLMs locally, RAG pipelines, agents, and testing LLM output.
  • DevOps and observability — CI/CD, deployment strategies, tracing, and logs that actually help.
  • Fundamentals — HTTP, DNS, encoding, time zones and error handling: the things every developer runs into eventually.

Most posts are short and practical: one idea, the trade-offs, and what I'd do about it.

Away from the keyboard

When I'm not writing code, I'm usually out with a camera. I love photography, mostly street scenes: old doorways, busy lanes, auto-rickshaws and the people who fill them. A selection lives in my #Snaps album on Google Photos.
