ArgoCD vs Jenkins: Why GitOps is Winning

Your GPS vs. Paper Map

Which one do you trust to guide your software deployments?

Jenkins: The Paper Map

Imperative commands are fragile and create cluster drift.

  • Step-by-Step Directions — Jenkins follows a script (like a map), telling the server how to get there. It's blind to the destination.
  • No Rerouting — If someone makes a manual change (a detour), the map is now wrong. The script fails or causes drift.
  • Prone to Human Error — You're trusting the map was drawn perfectly and the driver never makes a mistake.

ArgoCD: The GPS

GitOps declares the state, and the cluster makes it reality.

  • Knows the Destination — ArgoCD only cares about the final address (your Git repo). It constantly checks: "Are we there yet?"
  • Automatic Corrections — If you manually change the cluster (take a wrong turn), it automatically reroutes you back to the state defined in Git.
  • Always Accurate — The GPS gets real-time data. ArgoCD continuously reconciles, making drift impossible.

Stop Fixing Servers Manually

If you can't reproduce your entire cluster from Git, you don't have a process. You have a habit.

If it's not in Git, it doesn't exist.
